- Amnissos Οnly 8 km from the city of Heraklion, this beach is long and sandy. Here are the ruins of the Minoan mansion in which the famous fresco of "Lilies of the sand" was found. It is said that the king of Crete, Minos, came here to take a vacation and got amnesia from the beauty.
- Agia Pelagia A small coastal settlement, which is located 10 km from the city of Heraklion. It gets crowded during summer, but it is definitely worth a visit thanks to its thick sand and the calm emerald waters that create an exotic scenery. Near Agia Pelagia, beautiful is also the beach of Psaromoura. Both are ideal for families.
