Transport in York

Trains

York train station is just on the edge of the city centre and operates trains to London (1 hr 47 mins), Manchester (1 hr 38 mins), Edinburgh (2 hrs 30 mins), Birmingham (2 hrs 46 mins), Leeds (43 mins), Liverpool (2 hrs 12 mins) and Penzance (8 hrs 35 mins), among others.

Buses

York has an excellent bus network which runs seven days a week and connects the city to the surrounding suburbs, as well as Leeds and Selby.

Roads

The A1(M) motorway, which connects London to Edinburgh, passes through York along the way.

The A64 connects York to the coastal town of Scarborough to the east and provides a direct route to Leeds and the wider West Yorkshire area.

The A59 links York to Harrogate, Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales.

Park & Ride

York's Park & Ride services allow you to travel to York by car, park for free in secure car parks and complete your journey into the city centre by bus.

Park & Ride buses are fairly cheap and a fare-paying adult can travel with up to three under-16s for free.
